About Mercato and Company

Gourmet Grocery Store, Italian Cafe and Deli

Located at 3642 University Blvd Ste 100, Houston, TX 77005, Mercato and Company operates as a specialty food store serving Houston in Texas. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Google also lists it under cafe, which is worth knowing if you are comparing several options in the area.

Store size varies enormously, from a small corner grocery with a few aisles to a full supermarket chain location in Houston with a bakery, seafood counter and food court under one roof. Sales and promotions are often posted in-store or in a weekly flyer rather than online, so prices listed on a website may be out of date. Seafood markets sell live and on-ice product and can usually clean or prepare fish on request for a small fee. Specialty food stores in Texas may focus narrowly on one category, like a butcher, a rice and dry goods shop, or an import store, so calling ahead to confirm stock for a specific item saves a wasted trip.

The business lists hours on 2 days of the week. The most common schedule is 7 AM–9 PM. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Mercato and Company at (832) 891-3425; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is mercatoandcompany.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 225 reviews, which is a strong result for a specialty food store in Houston and suggests consistent service.

Houston is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Traffic in Houston peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Addresses read from the street number up to the city, state abbreviation and five-digit ZIP code; the map link on this page shows the exact spot.

One star for the coffee and presentation that I had while waiting for the pasta. $24 for PAPPARDELLE BOLOGNESE that wasn’t enough quantity to feed my toddler. Also, while handing me over the food I was informed that spaghetti was substituted…since I was sitting on site waiting-why not ask prior? Used to love this place but had gone a bit downhill.

Loved the atmosphere at Mercato and Company β˜•οΈβœ¨ The space is beautiful, the coffee was amazing, and everything felt so welcoming and cozy. Definitely one of those spots you can sit, relax, and enjoy good conversation. Can’t wait to come back.

Delicious food and a lovely atmosphere - an ideal spot for both brunch and dinner. The pasta is cooked to perfection, with excellent texture and rich, balanced flavor. The oysters are incredibly fresh and pair beautifully with thoughtfully crafted sauces that really elevate each bite. The outdoor seating is charming, and inside you’ll find shelves filled with unique, high-quality goods and snacks that add to the experience. The service is warm and attentive, making the visit even more enjoyable. I HIGHLY recommend: Beausoleil Oysters, Gamberi Argentini "Selvaggi", Lasagna, the quail, Pappardelle bolognese, pesto pasta They’re also opening a new restaurant soon, and I can’t wait to try it.

We popped into Mercato & Co after having dinner next door at the new restaurant. The market has a great set up and a well curated selection of imported groceries. My husband got a hazelnut gelato which was on the pricey side for the size ($8) but he said it was delicious. We tried a local small batch dark chocolate which was expensive ($22), required refrigeration and was not the best, but they also carry Venchi, our favorite Italian brand of chocolate. We also picked up a chocolate called pocket coffee that has a liquid espresso center which I quite enjoyed. I am very interested to come back and try their coffee, breakfast and lunch items which all looked great.

Beautifully appointed gourmet grocer / cafe concept. That being said, food was mid at best. I would consider this more of a neighborhood spot in an affluent community. Perfect if you live in the area, but not a place that I would frequent. Nice that they had parking in the back and outdoor seating. Lovely to check out on a sunny day.
